EMO FORMICHI

TITLE: EMO FORMICHI, 30′

DIRECTOR: Francesco Faralli
PRODUCER: Francesco Faralli
KEY CAST: Emo Formichi

OVERVIEW: Emo Formichi (peasant, carpenter, truckdriver, sculptor) tells about himself showing his workshop and his works made with pieces of motors, rubbish or everyday items.

“I was immediately captivated by the way Emo’s sculptures reinvigorate the gaze of the observer, by revealing the similarities or reinterpretations to be found in unexpected objects from daily life. Emo’s works suggest a new way of observing things and looking at nature, and they do so from a back room cluttered with tools and the residue of furnishings reminiscent of an village shoemaker (which in fact Emo has been, among other things). I found especially fascinating the dichotomy between old and new, between art and craftsmanship, between poetry and everyday life, because Emo incarnates this complexity and these contradictions in a simple, humble way, without a shade of affectation. This documentary was made with the intention of showing Emo in his day-to-day life, of letting him describe himself, his life and his work using both his savoury expressions in dialect and his moments of reticence. I have tried to encapsulate in the video a few grains of sand from the immense hourglass that marks the time he spends between his shop, his work and the brief pauses before the next piece to be made, in an endless marathon against the clock for a mass of hours that must have reached the height of Everest by now.”
